Fiery takeovers Chelsea and West Ham United face off at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, a still fiery fight suitable for the Premier League big screen (watch live at 10am ET on Saturday online on Peacock Premium).

The two split last season’s Premier League run along home lines and you only have to go back to 2019-20 to find a sweep, so Stamford Bridge have hosted the Blues in recent history.

Chelsea have now dropped points in three matches this season, losing their last two away visits: 3-0 to Leeds and 2-1 to Saints.

West Ham are unbeaten in three matches in all competitions, the last of which was a 1-1 draw with Spurs in which David Moyes’ men felt they could have taken all the points.

A win over Chelsea would seem like a real reset to pre-season expectations of a return to Europe.

Key scenarios

Chelsea players have just one game to get back into shape before the UEFA Champions League group stage. It starts for the Blues at 12:45 p.m. ET on Tuesday in Croatia against Dinamo Zagreb.

West Ham are buzzing with improved performances ahead of the UEFA Europa Conference League, a competition that could be their best route back to European competition for the 2023-24 seasons.

In-form players to watch

Perhaps no West Ham player is in better shape than Thomas Soucek. And, of course, former Chelsea youth midfielder Declan Rice is an almost ubiquitous force for the Irons. But Lucas Paqueta, arguably Brazil’s best midfielder, will be under the microscope if he starts for David Moyes.

Raheem Sterling has scored Chelsea’s last three goals, playing with great hunger and showing both his excellent brilliance and intelligence. The transfer of fellow player Marc Cucurella is also in impressive early form.
