The top two prospects in the 2023 NBA Draft will face off twice this week when Victor Wembanyama’s Metropolitans 92 team and Scoot Henderson’s G League Ignite team meet in exhibition matches. The first game on Tuesday did not disappoint, even while drawing a reaction from LeBron Jamesand Thursday’s game could be even better.

Wembanyama, the Projected No. 1 pick in next year’s classis widely regarded as the chicken prize for 2023. A 7ft 4in (!) centre-forward, he does a bit of everything with a true unicorn-like skill set: block shots, drain 3 points, create an offense, and of course act as a constant lob threat with his Go Go Gadget-like arms. He won’t turn 19 until early next year, but he’s long been seen as a generational talent. We’ve already seen some pretty obvious positioning for NBA teams over the past few months that suggests teams want to at least have a shot at getting him into the draft, a display of naked shamelessness that shows just how point NBA teams see his potential.

But Henderson, a 6-2 guard, is a gem in his own right. He doesn’t have the stunning height or length that Wembanyama brings to the table, but he was very productive for the G League Ignite last season as a 17-year-old. His explosiveness and his play from the point guard position make him one of the most promising future talents in the draft alongside Wembanyama.

And Wembanyama agrees.
